City officials are proposing a recycling program. They must examine the benefits to their community, not just the environment, to justify the costs of the program. What environmental and community benefits do you think would support the decision to start a recycling program?

    Recycling program can hold immense importance for the community as well as their outside environment. Here are few points that cover these benefits.

    • Benefits to environment:
    • When recyclable things are processed to make new things, it will lower the amount of garbage, trash and waste material; transported to landfills.
    • If the amount of trash sent to the landfills will be lowered, it will save our money that is paid by our area councils for trash disposal to landfills. This money can be used in some other useful projects for public like building of parks, recreation areas that people can enjoy.
    • When less material will go to landfills and more will be used for the recyling and making of new products, it will lessen the harmful effects of these material on important for example, damage to water bodies due to harmful chemicals in waste.
    • Benefits to community:
    • If a community does many steps to recycle the materials it will have less number of landfills in its town. This community and town will look ideal place to companies that are interested in doing collaboration or open their branches in the town. It will provide the people will job opportunities and also it will increase the property value of the town.
    • Recycling will also impose positive effect on overall health of community because there will be less emission of green house gases from landfill, since landfills are less in number.
    • Most importantly, recycling habit can improve the overall economy of a community because processing of used goods require many steps and the starting material is easy to get. It can provide good business and employment opportunists to people. According to a survey, recycling companies hire more people than waste disposing companies.
