    GAS or general adaptation syndrome refers to a three-stage response, which the body has to go through after getting exposed to stress. The three stages are alarm reaction, resistance, and exhaustion. After a lengthened duration of strain, the body moves into the ultimate phase of GAS called the exhaustion stage.  

    At this juncture, the body becomes devoid of its energy possessions by spontaneously attempting but failing to recuperate from the preliminary alarm reaction stage. After attaining the exhaustion stage, the body of an individual is no longer fortified to defend against the stress. The body may experience depression, tiredness, feeling of not able to cope, and anxiety.  

    If the individual does not discover any way to monitor the level of stress at this stage, then he or she becomes vulnerable to developing stress-associated health complications.
